South St. Paul's houses went up in the stockyards decades of the early 1900s and climbed the bluff from the river. They still stand on their original masonry: brick chimneys, porch piers, foundation walls and front steps. A bluff site takes weather from every direction. After a century of it, the North End and Southview show the full damage catalog block after block.
All of it is repairable, and matched materials are what make the repair last. We cut out spalled brick and set replacements matched to size and color. Joints get repointed in mortar matched to the original, not a hard modern mix. The full scope of our brick repair work, wall by wall, is on the service page.

The classic South St. Paul call is a porch corner dropping. Piers settle, caps crack, and the porch beam follows them down. We rebuild piers plumb on sound footings and relay the caps. Front steps worn hollow or pulling away from the house get rebuilt safe and level, which is work our steps page covers in detail.
Foundation walls here shed mortar at the ground line, where snow sits against the brick all winter. Repointing those courses, with drainage corrected where water pools, stops the cycle. Catching it early keeps a foundation repair from becoming a foundation project.
A 1915 brick has a size, color and texture that modern production brick does not match off the shelf. We source reclaimed and close-match brick so repairs blend instead of checkerboarding. Mortar gets the same treatment, matched in hardness and color and tooled to the original joint. The goal is a wall where you cannot find the repair.
The commercial blocks on Concord Street carry the same era of brick at storefront scale. Facade work there runs through our commercial restoration process, scoped so the business keeps operating while the wall gets fixed.
More about the service itself is on our Brick Repair page, and everything we do around town is on the South St. Paul service-area page.
