A concrete driveway in Minneapolis, Bloomington, Burnsville and across the Twin Cities metro lives a hard life: frost heave from below, plow blades and deicing salt from above, and a parked vehicle load every day between. Ours are built for those conditions: full-depth tear-out of the failed slab, base compacted to stop the settling that cracked it, air-entrained concrete at proper thickness, and control joints laid out so the slab cracks where we tell it to.
Replacement is most of the driveway work we do, because most metro driveways were poured on lean base decades ago and are past saving. Once heaved panels, alligator cracking and salt scaling spread, mudjacking and patching are short-term fixes. We pour the driveway once, correctly, and pair it with the aprons, walks and steps that finish the front of the house.

Frost gets under a driveway through the base. When the ground below holds water, winter freezes it into lenses that lift panels unevenly; spring melts them and the panels drop. A few cycles of that and the slab cracks along its own stress lines — then salt widens the cracks and scales the surface. The root cause is almost always the base preparation, not the concrete.
So the base is where our driveway estimates put the money: excavation to stable soil, compacted class-5 aggregate at real depth, and grades that move water off the slab and away from the garage. It is invisible on day one, and it is why the driveway looks the same in year fifteen.
Thickness matched to load, with thickened sections where trucks or trailers park. Air-entrained concrete, because a mix without air entrainment scales within a few Minnesota winters. Reinforcement where spans and soil call for it. Joints sawcut on a clean layout that both controls cracking and looks intentional. Edges formed straight, apron tied to the street correctly, and a cure-and-seal schedule so the surface is defended before its first salt season.
Finish is your choice: standard broom for grip, or decorative textures and borders if the front of the house calls for something more. Either way, the slab is flat and water drains off it. We check both with a level and a hose.
A full replacement runs on a tight, predictable sequence: tear-out and haul, base correction, forming, pour, finish, joint cutting, and cure, with the driveway typically drivable in about a week. We will also tell you when replacement is not yet necessary. A structurally sound driveway with surface wear can sometimes wait a few more winters, and we would rather you spend that money on masonry that cannot wait.
